BEHINDtheBUILD

BEHINDtheBUILD is A Do-It-Yourself series that breaks down the development of the vivaria used to house the inhabitants on the cinematic series VIVUS …

THE LATEST BUILD… Edens.Bow

Edens.Bow was a passionate project that took almost 3 months to build. After maintaining this paludarium and its occupants… I’m inspired to share the development with you on how I put it together. I tried to be as detailed as possible while maintaining a level of simplicity anyone can understand.

Understandably, I know there are a number of ways things in the development of this vivarium that could be simplified or re-approached… I welcome your opinions and look forward to the possibilities that could flourish from the many minds contributing to Edens.Bow and her uniqueness!

I’m really excited to finally show the world this project! It has been several months of trial and error, but this DIY paludarium is finally complete and currently housing over 14 unique species of animals. I would like to present to you.. **drum roll** Edens.Bow!! “Edens.Bow” is a self monitoring, smart, multi-layered Paludarium. When paired…

Looking to build a paludarium for yourself? In this chapter I’ll explain how to build a paludarium like Edens.Bow! As I mentioned in the overview chapter of Edens.Bow, this 8 foot paludarium was originally a 55 gallon aquatic tank. It was being used as a saltwater aquarium. Everything appeared to be in good shape and working…

Are you ready for the fun part? Arduino magic! Now that chapter 2 has covered how to build the paludarium, we can start adding some level of intelligence to it. This chapter might be a bit complex if you’re looking at code or tinkering with electronics for the first time. If it gives you any…

In the last chapter, I covered how to control the paludarium with an Arduino. That chapter makes it possible to add and control virtually anything in our vivarium now. So let’s light things up with a sky. Lighting A Paludarium This part of the build was the most exciting for me. The concept of having…

In the last chapter we built the paludarium lighting, The only thing physically left to do with our tank is bring it to life with ambient sounds of nature! This was a very important aspect to me. I feel like it truly puts the icing on the cake when you can put you ear to…

In the last chapter we went over adding sound FX to the paludarium.. With the tank now almost complete, we are ready to add Bluetooth capabilities to it so we can control the paludarium remotely. This is going to be a bit of a challenge explaining the app development in detail the way I have…

After successfully building the paludarium controlled App in the last chapter, we can finally prepare our tank for life! Believe it or not, plants have been the most challenging part for me. Prior to this project, I have never done anything like this before. Even with the heavy amount of trial and error, I’m still…

I have to admit something.. Stocking Edens.Bow with paludarium animals and watching them thrive, has been one of the most entertaining things I’ve done in a while. In the last chapter, we scaped the paludarium with plants. At this point we should be ready to introduce inhabitants to the tank. Building A Mulit-Species Paludarium Before we…
